Acanthus Lighting was established in 2003 by acclaimed lighting designer David K. Warfel. Mr. Warfel, a member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) and an associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), earned both a Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies and a Masters of Fine Arts in Theatrical Lighting from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).
He has worked as a project designer for architects, as a residential home designer for Habitat for Humanity, and as a project designer for the architectural lighting offices of Charter Sills & Associates. In 2002, Mr. Warfel joined the faculty of the University of Illinois to teach theatre and architectural lighting courses.
Mr. Warfel has designed a wide variety of theatrical and architectural projects across the United States such as the award winning Time exhibit at Chicago’s Museum of Science and Industry, exhibits at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor’s Center in Las Vegas, Relativity with the St. Louis Black Repertory, and The Lady from Dubuque with the Organic Theatre Company of Chicago. |
